Wanted to ask the experts here....

I have a 2000 40 Sea Ray with the Raytheon electronics package. The original Ray Chart 601XX stopped working this past summer. Raymarine said they will no longer fix these units. I am thinking of scrapping the whole system and getting a new Multi Func Display but I am don't want to spend the money....right now. Anyway, I found a used (but working) RayChart 610 and wanted to see if this unit can be swapped out for the 601XX. The dimensions of both units are the same, so I know it will fit into the same space, just wanted to make sure it woukd work with the radar, auto pilot, GPS.

Any advice or help is gretaly appreciated.

Try Ebay. There are numerous used electronics pieces for sale.

The 610 is a variant of the 600. The 600 is an older model of the 601 that used older C-MAP cartridges. The 601 uses the newer C-MAP NT cartridges. I think there was also some interface differences on the 610 from the 600 and 601, but I don't really remember. Keep looking for a 601 or upgrade to something current. The 610 would not be a good replacement or the 601.

Best regards,
Frank

Perhaps Raymarine themselves can suggest older compatible units which would work. They were very helpful to me when I called. However, I have a similar quest Steve - we own a SL631 plotter which is working perfectly. I would like to add a radome but they told me that our unit will not accept radar. If we want to add radar they want me to buy a complete new system. Of course they do, that's their job!

It's a pain for me also. The industry seems to want us to set aside say $4-5000/yr to upgrade electronics but we would rather buy fuel and other stuff, right? Sorry that I can't offer you any assistance other than to commiserate..
Cheers,
Warren

The SL631 is chartplotter only device. There never was a radome that was compatible with that display. It wasn't designed or sold to work as a radar display. Might as well complain that you can't watch TV on the stereo.

Best regards,
Frank
