I have a 454 w/I/O and changed my impeller last week. It was a relatively easy job once you wedge yourself into the bilge which was almost impossible. I laid a 8" wide board across the 2 stringers that allowed me to lay down on my side. Once down there I was not about to get out until the pump was removed so I had someone with me to hand me the tools needed. It's sort of like childbirth, you swear to God you will never do it again during the process, but after it's over you begin to think well that wasn't so bad let's do it again.

Do a twin and you won't be thinking that wasn't so bad - let's do it again - trust me!
I can certainly appreciate the lack of space with twins. That's why I specified 'A' 454, if there we 2 of those puppies in my bilge I would not of even attempted it.I agree and have never done it. It took the pros 4.3 hrs to do both engines. Charged me for 3.5 including replacing the intake hoses from the seacocks to the pumps which I thought was very reasonable. It probably would have taken them half that time to carefully extricate me from the engine bay.
