Hi Guys,

I'm starting to get the itch for boating season again, so I'm thinking of some jobs I'll try to tackle before the boat goes in again. I was thinking of changing the raw water impellers and have seen some useful threads here with good directions.

I just want to be sure to get the correct parts. I've got a 2006 300DA with the Merc 5.0L engines and have a few questions for those of you that are experienced:

1. Can you point me to the correct part numbers and a good source for the impeller kit? I understand now it is recommended to change the housing, not just the impeller and gaskets.

2. Can you do same for the correct size impeller puller? I've got the rest of the tools already, just figure I might grab one of these to make it easy on myself.

3. Are there any user-created directions out there or additional guidance on changing out the housing in addition to the impeller?

Many thanks! Hope all of you have found something to do that will take your mind off winter and expensive gas!

I got my impeller kits from Wholesale Marine last spring.
http://www.wholesalemarine.com/

They have a very intuitive drop down menu for selecting the kit you need for any engine.
Good luck and have fun.
Get out the Ibuprofen, Bandages and Beer!!

If you have I/O's like myself it goes a lot easier.

Also some great posts on here with all of the directions you will need.

about 1.5hrs per side - remove the whole housing - after disconnecting the hoses the biggest ***** is getting the housing past the harmonic balancer (there is a tab cast into the housing that hangs it up) you must loosen the cool fuel module from its bracket (3 bolts if I rememer correctly - one in back, hard to reach) this will give you enough play to get it by - the housing is cast you will not have to replace it - you can lap the cover if it is scored from running in shallow water but even scored housings seem to deliver adaquate pressure - use dish soap to ease installation and start up of the new impellar and make sure you install it with the vanes "set" in the right direction

Just finished replacing the impeller on my strb. Did great no major issues taking out, apart and installing.

The bad news is now I have a water leak I cant identify. After taking apart the pump AGAIN, It does not seem to be the o-ring seal or the pump. Just before I gave up today I found a loose +/- 3/4" hose with a quick disconnect fitting at he end. Did not test this hose yet, but...

Any clues or maybe what I should look for?
