OK, I might get flamed here for so many posts about my paranoia (spare parts, remote oil reservoirs, and now this) but I am really worried about becoming stranded out on the lake.

I was looking for a flow detector to make sure that my outdrive is giving proper flow to my engine to prevent overheating and damaging parts. I came across this product which I think may be better than my original idea. This wraps around the exhaust hoses and monitors the temperature at the exhaust. If the temperature rises to an unsafe level, indicating lack of cooling water making its way to the exhaust, an alarm sounds.

Does this seem like a reasonable add-on or am I just overly paranoid? My boat is 25 years old, freshwater run only, and ran good last year, but you just never know. It seems like this would be a great early warning system if my water pump ever went out or if my manifolds are rusting shut. Any thoughts from the experienced boaters?

This was a smart enough idea that mercruiser has it on my boat as part of smart craft.

Hmm, well that makes me think it would be worth while then.

Different way of doing it, But volvo has Sensors on their exhaust also.

It's totally up to you, But if it will help put you at at ease while trying to enjoy your time on the water, Go for it.

And the little light is kind of cool because if A horn does go off then that will help you know quicker what horn is going off.
