Raratin Icerette Problem

I'm having a problem with my ice maker that I hope someone can help me out with. For some reason it's not producing any ice.

The unit gets more than cold enough to make ice so I know it's not a compressor issue. It seems like there is no water getting to the ice making mechanism but I can't figure out why. I've got plenty of water getting to the valve so I know it's not that.

If I understand correctly how this unit works the ice making mechanism runs through a cycle and calls for water from the valve when the time is right. I'm guessing it's either a problem with the mechanism or the valve itself. Either the mechanism is not triggering the valve or the valve is not working. This is an older unit but the ice making mechanism was replaced 2-3 years ago so I doubt it's that. I've taken the valve apart and cleaned everything out and didn't see any problems there.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

The ice maker has several holes under the end cover. You can short 2 of them with a jumper and that will advance the icemaker mechanism at a fast rate. If the icemaker mechanism is working , it will rotate the fingers fast enough for you to see that it is functional....one cycle in 30 seconds. If it does cycle, then the problem is likely the fill valve.......if it sits there doing nothing, then you need to replace the icemaker mechanism again.

The problem with the above is that my manuals are 450 miles from me and I just don't remember which 2 holes to connect the jumper to. Perhaps someone else has dealt with this and knows or maybe you can ask a refrigerator repair guy. The holes in the end cover have several connections behind them and you can test various components with an ohmmeter using them, but if something is wrong, you will likely end up replacing the whole module anyway.

Sorry I'm not more help........

those modules get rusty and stop working.
you can try to spray with wd40 and wait for about 30 mins for oil to penetrate inside - unplug ice maker at this time.
once you ready plug it in and turn it on
try to manually spin plastic (or brass - depends how old is your ice maker) gear wheel (bigger one) to free up stucked gears - try to go back and forward and not to break a gear wheel
if successful gears should engage and make quick part of cycle
and remember to lower arm over ice bucket - this is a safety preventing from too much ice being produced - it keeps only compressor running when in up position

Capt Tim,

You don't say what year the boat is but on mine there is a heavy wire arm above the ice storage bin that shuts off the icemaker when the bin gets full. That arm can be put into the off position and it will stay there. I know this sounds stupid but is the arm in the down position?

Thanks for the input everyone. The ice maker itself it from 1989 but the ice making mechanism itself was replaced 2-3 years ago and as far as I can tell, is working properly. I have seen the rotating arm moving and the ice level arm going up and down.

I'm leaning towards the valve/solenoid being the problem since it's original as far as I know. I've just got to test it when I get a chance.

When I had a no-ice problem once it took me a few hours before I figured out that I had failed to turn on the pressure water. Did you check to be sure that it's on and the pump is operational? Just sayin'...

That's the very first thing I checked but thanks anyway.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have too much water overfilling tray and icing up the whole ice bin and floor of icemaker. Has anyone struck this problem...? I have tried to limit the amount of water entering tray w/o success. Suspect solenoid valve part#27 on exploded parts diagram.L203a - L203icerettev0901.pdf

Mine is a U-Line but I experienced the same issue and it was the solenoid ( $20 to $30 as I recall ).
