Rain-X on Isenglass

Though not recommended by the manufacturer, and I didn't know any better, I used lemon Pledge on our 270...because my dock neighbor used it. It worked, but you could see in the plastic that it had an effect on it. Then I learned about Plexus, thankfully before we bought the 300

Pledge is even worse than Rain-X. It also has chemicals that leach the plasticizer out of eisinglass so after a while the eisinglass will get hard and brittle. The added factor with Pledge is that it will coat the surface with a "wax" that yellows in the sun if you don't wash it off..........what good is it if you have to wash it off?

IT may cost a little more but why not use what the vinyl makers recommend?

This is from the Strataglass site:

Strataglass Care & Maintenance!
It is extremely important fabricators and vessel & car owners read and understand this information. We request fabricators provide owners a copy of this sheet.

We recommend using only IMAR Products. IMAR Strataglass Protective Polish, IMAR Strataglass Protective Cleaner, and mild soap (preferably IMAR Yacht Soap Concentrate) on Strataglass. (We no longer recommend the use of any other products, regardless of the manufacturer's claims.) Use of harsh cleaners like Simple Green and/or pine will dull the curtains quickly.
After September 30, 2004, using any other product(s) void the factory warranty

NEVER use a wash and wax product on Strataglass.

- Warning
*Use of RAINEX on Strataglass appears to work for a short time but then dulls the surface and presents an "Orange Peel" effect. Do not use RAINEX.
*Use of cleaners, polishes, scratch removers, or any other product made for regular, uncoated vinyl will damage STRATAGLASS. Do not use these products
* DO NOT HANDLE STRATAGLASS (OR ANY VINYL) WITH SUNSCREEN ON YOUR HANDS! This will permanently cloud the vinyl where handled.

Both Imar Cleaner and Polish spray on and wipe off with a clean dry towel....... I wish everything on my boat was as easy to maintain as the vinyl curtains. I have Makrolon panels forward of the arch and I only use Plexus on them.
When my windshields were replaced with Strataglass, the guy was so adamant about the above advice he gave me a bottle of the cleaner and the polish with the job! I hardly ever use the windows, but they are crystal clear with the Imar.

I hadn't read up on pledge, so this is good. Somehow I missed this earlier. I agree use what is recommended. These two products are what I use with great results.

That's what I have been using, Todd. I was thinking about putting some 303 on them for UV protection, but I don't think its worth it for me.

In the 2-1/2 years that I've owned my boat, the glass has been up for a total of about 21 days. I only use it when we need weather or bug protection. If the weather is nice, the glass is down and stowed. As long as I can keep it clean and "moisturized" (in a vinyl sort of way), mine should last forever.

If I left them up all the time or I lived in Florida, then I would be more cautious.

Just used the Plexus and I did it three times.

First time by hand; cleaner but not good.

Second time I used a Buff clothe and buffing machine (for waxing the boat); It came out amazingly clean and clear.

Third time; finished up by hand got in the corners and such.

streak free and crystal clear...good stuff the Plexus is.

Good stuff
