I have the original Clarion XMD1. I want to upgrade the head unit to a Bluetooth but still be able to use the helm remote. What kind of head unit will let me do this and be compatible with the remote?

I installed one of these from amazon.plugs into the back of receiver and connected 12 volt to the incoming power to the head. This way you don't have to change out everything plus it still workers with my phone when I'm on the dock.

I tried that with a Fusion BT100. The same thing but I cant seem to make it work correctly. I get both the Bluetooth sound and the radio sound coming out of the speakers when I turn up the volume. Is there a setting on the radio you have to put it on. Could not find an AUX setting.

I don't know the XMD1 but the XMD3 manual says that if you repeatedly hit the source/power button on the remote, it will scroll through each of the inputs including aux.

I have a feeling the XMD1 does not have rear AUX-in. What leads did you connect the BT-100 to?

No new head unit is going to work properly with your existing remotes.

The XMD1 only has a CDChanger input. You can hack its cable to replace it with a BT dongle, but of course that renders your CD changer inoperative. Then the only thing you can control from the remote is power and volume.

I connected to the red and white RCA cables that were extra on the back. I hooked up the red hot wire and the black ground wire.

Red and white ends is typical to denote left (white) and right (red) but that does not indicate if they are an input, which you need, or an ouput, which I think they are. Are the wire leads between the red and whit plugs and head, white or black or red? White is front out, black is rear out and red is AUX input.

I installed one on my older Fusion MS-IP600 last summer and it works flawlessly for streaming XM from my iPad through my Fusion stereo when I set the input on my head unit to AUX. I plugged it in to the AUX inputs on the back of the head unit.
Do you have the manual for your Fusion head unit? You can usually find a downloadable copy of it online. Is it compatible with the BT100? Is it listed as one of the accessories for your head unit in the manual?
Can you identify what red & white inputs you plugged the BT100 to?
It would be strange if you don’t have AUX inputs.
Whatever inputs you plugged it in to is what you need to set the head unit to in order for it to work properly.
For Example: You plugged it in to the CD input, then set the head unit to CD.
You plugged it in to AUX input, then set the head unit to AUX.
The remote at my helm is a Fusion MS-WR600C that works exactly as it should with my set up.
I leave my iPad in the cabin streaming XM to the head unit through the connected BT100 and control the volume at the helm through the MS-WR600C.

Some of the older Clarions do not have AUX in. On my 260DA I added a Tranzit Blue adapter because of that. The TB plugged into the antenna and played the Bluetooth over a programmed station. The nice thing about the TB was when you connected to it the antenna was electronically disconnected to prevent interference. It worked well - not a good as the BT-100 into my AUX in now but at least I did not have to upgrade the Clarion head unit - Just preset the channel that I programmed into the TB.
