Just pulled the boat out for spring and the neutral switch ( or whatever it's called ) isn't working. This is the button at the base of the shifter you push to rev the engine. When I push the button to crank the engine it goes into gear. Any help out there or is this something I should take to the shop.
BTW, The only problems I've had with the boat was after I took it to the shop for a checkup. Would like to avoid that option. Thanks.

I had the same thing happen to me years ago on my 270DA. At that time you could buy a new shift arm assembly, reconnect the shift cables and be good as new.

I took mine apart and the gear teeth inside that match up to the shaft connected to the shift handle had worn beyond repair. The "shifter box" is packed with grease from the factory but they still wear enough to the failure point. Be thankful it didn't lock into fwd or rev and not be able to shift to neutral. That happend to me backing down on our slip.

You could replace it with a newer Commander series....I can't remember the series number sorry. OR you could take your chance with this...it is a decent price, buyer beware, after all, it is ebay.

Google search Commander 3000, there is a recall bulletin that I couldn't link to my post that you may find interesting....

Thanks for the quick response. Very good info at those sites. I guess I'll take a look inside to see if I think it can be fixed or if a replacement is needed. Any tips on taking it apart.
Thanks again. Jeff

When I disassembled mine, I reset the gear teeth in place. Then placed the shifter back on the splines so I could see how the arms moved inside. When I placed it back together, it shifted perfect for 2 times and then it locked up again. That was enough for me to replace it. Having a shifter lock up during a docking situation is dangerous.
