I have one with 900 hours. No problems, but have been readig the threads. Question. Do you need to change the oil in the govenor? If yes with what? If you put in too much or too little oil what will happen?

I believe its a recommended service item. In our Westerbeke manual it has an interval. I changed ours a couple years ago. The fill procedure was outlined and I believe they listed the oil type. I removed it from the genny and did it on a bench. I had no problems prior or after. Just one of those things that I felt good about doing. And luckily it didn't turn into a "if it ain't broke..." situation.

I also routinely change the oil on the GOV. I use a small tube and a large turkey baster syringe. Losen both Screws out with the old in with the new. I do nee some advice with the carb. I recently changed a leaking fuel pump with a store brand auto parts model and Im having the mixture a bit rich. Is that adjusted at the idel speed screw? and how many turns from close do I turn.

Any one with the answer

What type of oil do you usein the govenor. I found it once in one of the books I have or on the net but can not find it again.
Oil looks dark so time to change.
Thanks

My QS 6.5kw governor has a bad main seal so it leaks oil at a very slow rate. I have no clue what oil you're supposed to use but I've been putting regular old 10w40 oil in there to top it off. I've also put in a bunch of that stop-leak stuff, which did nothing at all to stop the leak. Have a new governor in a box here at the house - still another thing on the list of things to do.

Ron, where did you find a new governor and how much did they whack you for it? Just curious.

Bought mine off of Mark (WilieCoyote). He bought it from, I believe, Partsfortechs.com for about $215, which is what I paid him for it.

I just did my Westerbeke. 3 oz of 10w40. I believe it says every 1000hrs....I think.

Thanks for oil type. ATF seems OK so far. Will try 10/40 next time. ATF is what the British down draf carbs used. I used to use regular motor oil in them when they were low and I did not have ATF
Generator govenor seems stable may be ATF has cleaned things up in it.

I bought that governor Part#075743 from TWEnterprises in 2009 and it was a PITA to get. They had to do a search to find it and then I believe they had to get it dropshipped from Generac when they had one available. M&D Mower also had it listed, but they were having problems finding it as well when I was trying to get it. They have it listed currently, so you may have better luck.
