Quick windass need help please!!

my veritcal windlass works well until the rope to anchor splice wraps around gypsy and doesnt fall into the hole into the anchor locker.The result is a jammed up gypsy, 20 feet of chain and anchor overboard, adrift around a bunch of boats.
I replaced the small spring that creates tension on the rubber flapper, filed the hole that leads to the locker (in essence making the hole larger) with little to no success.
Is it time for new anchor chain and rope? Thanks for any and all help!!!

Common problem. I retrieve my anchor with the windlass motor, thereby creating tension the entire length of the rode. As soon as the chain hooks up, motor towards your anchor to release it. The windlass will pick up the chain with no tension.

Is the stud that holds the tension finger bent? On my 320 that was the case and it worked perfectly after I replaced the assembly. Go to the Imtra website and order if that's the case.
