quick help please

Ok pumps in everything works great just one small thing.. IfI cruiser for any amount of time ass soon as I shut down to idle the temp jumps from 170 to 180 185 for a few second then back to 170..??? It did it with the old pump to but status at a constant 170 even when cruising for 6 hours straight

You say a few seconds - do you mean that literally, like 10 seconds or so? I don't thing that's a problem. If the engine runs at the cruising temp that it always did I wouldn't worry about it. A small short-lived spike in temp when coming off plane is not unusual as the flow of water is suddenly cut back due to decreased RPM but the exhaust gases are still at their hottest.

I didn't catch on to the hose propped up and the lake quote lol sorry please explain

Yea it quickly surges up for just abut teen seconds Luke you say them quickly returns to normal... So you say it is normal for this to happen? I'm probably Gunna change the t stat anyway prob never been changed. Should I go down in temp out use factory settings?

You removed the pump while the boat was in the water. This left one end of the hose below the water line, while the other end, (the pump end) you had to raise, and secure it above the water line to stop the flow. I was just saying that for me, as a relative rookie, this was a little nerve racking.

Gotcha lol sorry I'm a little slow.. But yes out was very nerve racking but it worked. Bilge stayed bone dry

Doubt a new thermostat is gonna make any difference. Your thermostat opens when the engine reaches the temp it likes to run at. For example mine is a 143 degree tstat. My engines really never run any cooler than that, other than at startup, so it's not like it needs to open FURTHER when you slow down. But what the hey - have at it! Preventive maintenance is never a bad thing.

Around 155-160.

Ran the boat yesterday. Runs steady at 145-150*

Yup more I have something to keep me busy this week. I can change it while its in the water right?

If you have closed cooling, then you have nothing to worry about in terms of sinking - I'd keep a shop vac handy to suck up any coolant you may lose. If you're raw water cooled, then what MWPH said above.
