Interesting that this would happen after giving accolades on the forum this week about dry storage. I popped by the boat this evening to get it ready to take out this weekend and I noticed a large puddle of oil under the outdrive. Upon closer inspection I notice that there is a large chunk of the fin missing from the bottom of the outdrive and the fin is noticeably bent. Clearly the forklift operator either dragged the outdrive on the concrete or set the boat down on the outdrive. It is also clear that whoever did it got on the boat, turned the batteries back on and raised the drive. I guess they hoped that I wouldn't notice? The marina employees had left for the day when I found this but I intend to discuss it with the harbormaster in the morning.

My questions: I'm not as concerned about the fin damage as I am about the fluid leak. What would be leaking after this kind of incident? It was too dark to check the reservoir this evening. It's starting to look like my weekend plans are scrubbed - agree? Any other thoughts about what I should be concerned about?

The gear housing could be cracked or prop shaft bent. After a hit that hard I would also be concerned about the transom. Have a pro check it ASAP.

Thanks Quint, I plan to have my mechanic look at it on Monday. I couldn't understand where the pool of fluid under the drive would come from and your thoughts on a cracked gear housing would account for that I guess.

The harbormaster at the marina looked at and asked who my mechanic was. He indicated that he would make the arrangements with him to have it assessed and pay the bill. He said that he would call me once that was done and discuss next steps. I'm not sure that i can really ask for more than that at this point.

Look close at the transom inside and out. Look at the seal around the gimbal housing inside and out. Just being the devil's advocate here. If it leaks next season it might be hard to get them back in "apology" mode.

Would this require removing the outdrive? I'm not opposed to that and I have actually been wanting to replace the trim sensors.

Would not need to remove drive. Just look real close (inside and out) for any signs of cracks, etc. where the transom assembly meets the transom. Use a flashlight and mirror inside.
