New here and looking at buying a sea ray. I am looking at buying a 1994 240 bowrider. Boat is located a long ways from where i am located ( 12 hour drive). It has a 454 with bravo outdrive. i have a few questions for those who may be a little more familiar with these models.

What is an average planning speed for these boats? Is the wake from these boats to much for begining skiers? I have two young teenage daughters who are just learning to ski, as are there friends so if the speed needed to get a relatively small wake is to fast, or the wake is to big, then it really wouldn't fit my needs.

I currently own a 1976 cobalt 19.5 bowrider ( with a very deep V) and we love the room, my wife loves the fact that we don't get the pounding from waves that come with a smaller or flatter v boat. Looking to upgrade and would like to not loose any space in the process.

we also do a lot of tubing, wich is fine in terms of wake, but a little concerned that the larger boat will not be the best for learning skiers.

thanks in advance for any help

The wake will be bigger and the time to plane probably slower (depends on what motor your Cobalt has) but it will provide plenty of room. If you are a beginning skier- 2 skis- it might be fun. I used to love to jump the wake when the water was too rough for a solid slalom run. Then they invented the Skurfer and I hardly picked up a ski again. At a solid speed low 30's the wake will flatten out but you will still have some big bumps to contend with.
Make sure the floor is solid and the transom is solid. Search for FriscoBoater on this board. He thought he had a mint boat only to find it was a nightmare.
