Hey gang,
I have a fairly new to me, 1990 Sea Ray 180 BR. It has the Merc 4.3 Alpha One drive, the engine was rebuilt by Jasper around 4 years ago. Engine runs great and is very smooth.

We have taken it out about 7-8 times now since we got it. My question relates to the alignment of the steering wheel itself, whilst running straight ahead.

The wheel has 3 aluminum flat bars in the middle, two run horizontal, and then one runs vertically straight down from the center of the wheel, so all three meet right there in the middle.
Up until yesterday, when I was running straight ahead at my cruise speed ( app 25mph), the steering wheel was aligned perfectly. Yesterday when we went out, all day I had to turn the wheel to the right some, for it to track straight ahead. App 90 degrees to the right. If I centered the wheel, the boat would be steering to the left.

I found this a little odd and caused me some concern. Now the weather was not great, it was very windy and the water very choppy with some sizeable waves, but even in not so choppy water it seemed to do the same.

Is this something I should be concerned about? This is my first boat, so am pretty new to all of this.

Thanks for any feedback,

That's normal. You were correcting for windage. A boats steering system is nowhere near as precise or "accurate" as an automobile.

Good to hear , I am relieved I was afraid something might be wrong. Many thanks!
