I recently bought a 33FT Sea Ray DA. I went to the lake today to prep my 21 ft Wellcraft 5.0 265HP Merc with 100 hrs for sale . I have my Marina winterize it every year in October . I put into the lake as I have done for the last ten years . Cranked it over , it started BUT smoke started came out I lifted the engine cover and noticed water entering the bilge area. I shut it off immediately and put the bilge pump on and it started pimping out the water. I checked adound the engine looking for loose hoses etc...I felt around the starboard heat exchanger and found a crack in it . This is where the water was entering to the bilge. What cause this? not winterizing correctly? Any thoughts? you know I'm contacting my service department at the marina where the service was done Monday morning . Bad part was I had an very interested owner ready to purchase . Murphy's Law .

If the heat exchanger is cracked, it probably was not winterized correctly. If the seller is really interested, get it fixed or offer him an allowance for the repair.

Best regards,
Frank
