When the holding take is empty and clean...... do you ever fill it up with clean water and flush out the macerator pump just to make sure it's still working?

Does anyone with these systems remove the handle from the valve?

I have removed the handle from the thru-hull and zip tied it to the hose. Maybe a belt and suspenders approach, but it helps me sleep.

The federal "thou shall not discharge sewage unless you are three miles off shore' regulation applies to the entire USA, including inland lakes and rivers. You might also run afoul of local regulations that are aimed at sewage discharge from lakeside residences as well. Trust me, you do not want to piss off the powers that be in this area, I own a home with a septic system that is located on the bank of a river. Let's just say I have had a couple run ins with the EPA and even with things being acceptable they still were sticklers for the rules. That being said, I am all in favor of them being hard a$$ed about it; our drinking water comes from wells fed by the very same river.

If you must test the system, I'd suggest waiting for the next time the boat is taken out of the water and on a trailer, or stands. The you can run the pump so that the discharge goes into a five gallon bucket. Just remember to not put more than five gallons in the holding tank.

I have dumped mine in a bucket, as was suggested by Henry... Even on the coast, very few people use their macerator.... When you are 3 miles out it is too much trouble to open the hatch to access the valve....
