Hey Everyone,

My local West Marine has a Fastback Canvas for sale at a 50% discount due to it being brought back by the original purchaser. Apparently he was not aware that he had to drill holes in his boat. The instructions are not with the canvas, and I am unsure where the fastback connects with the boat.

Does it zip to my existing rear bimini or does it attach to the back of the radar arch???

This is the 380 DA application. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Larry

Larry-
You will have to add two plastic post recepticles to the aluminum supports of the rear bimini top and rivit them in. Everthing else matches to your existing zippers. The snaps are crappy and mount on with velcor. Once you find the spots for the snaps that work. take it to a canvas shop and have propoer snaps put in. This is a pretty cost effective way to go.
We never had any problems w/ ours. Hope that helps

Escapade,
U left out the drilling into the fiberglasss for the stern post recepticles. I loved my Fast back and Like you said ... Once u have the right snap location you HAVE TO get the snaps sewn in.

If its done correctly, it will zip to your existing factory canvas. The holes that get drilled are on the rear to hold clips. The clips screw down.....Fiberglass rods slip into the clips to bow out and give the canvas its domed shape on the rear, just like a tent does. If your canvas isn't original, it will not fit. Also, if your canvas is too old, there will be a big difference in color shading.

Rob- you are correct. I did leave that out. you have a 420 I did not know they made one for your boat. We are in process of a 390 w/ hard top. any idea if one is available for that model?Mike

I had the fastbackl on my 320DA and love it. you can run with it up , rolled back in sections or off.

Escapade is correct you will need to riviet the receptors into the bimini frame, drill the small screw holes into the top of the transom (dont forget the sealer) and it's done. Once located properly, with the velcro snap, I just snap one ones onto the canvas with the snap tool you can purchase in WM. works just as well and you won't pay for the canvas guy sewing all the snaps.

NOTE: The poles are NOT fiberglass, they're aluiminum. Mine and a few others in the marina snapped at the point they join. Taylor made good and sent replacements and stated they were working the problem.(this was 2004) The new ones also snapped (temperture changes), so I went to a camping store and bought fiberglass tent poles (3-3piece ones with elastic) cut the to length (very important since the the two outer poles are shorter then the middle one). Never had another problem after that.

Great product otherwise.

Mike,

No fastback for a hardtop. (yet). If you look at the standard aft sun bonnet on a SR you will note the angle is very slight compared to the downward slope of the hard top. The fastback with the tension holding tentpole design will make the hardtop/fastback combo look something like an "~" a downward slope then the canvas fastback going up and round. You get the picture.

Thanks Guys.

I just spoke to them again and may be able to grab it for 1,000.00. There will be a color difference but it may be worth it for that price. They sais it sells for just under 3900.00 new.

They have everything on sale through May at Taylor Made. I got a quote of $2500. I have not made up my mind to buy it or not. Maybe it is because I feel like I just sent all of my money to the Government. Refund? Please translate - no comprende...

BUY IT! You will not be disappointed! I have owned mine for 8 years and it has been flawless. I actually bought mine before the developers sold the design patent to Taylor Made.

Good Luck!
