Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my 18.5 Sea Ray open bow. I've looked at the Sundeck 22 ft with standard 280 HP engine- very sluggish. I'm not sure if anyone has either boat and , if so did they upgrade the engine. Also, has anyone skied/slalomed behind either boat.

Thanks

I was cruising through a search and found this post.

Eggie, if you get an e-mail that there is a reply to your request, sorry I don't have the answer you asked but I'll assume you've upgraded boats 3 times since this post.

Talk about digging up an old thread. You must have been bored today Todd.

Did the 220SD have the 260HP or 300HP? Bravo 3 or Alpha? Sluggish is subjective, it all depends on what you're looking for.

I've skied behind a 220SD with a 5.0MPI/Alpha. Took a little longer to get up (dragged a bit) when everyone was sitting in the back. It was fine when some sat in the front.

I've skied behind a 240SD with the 350MAG/BravoIII. Much better pull. But we're still comparing apples to oranges here because of the engine and drive difference.

Trying to remember what I was even doing in '04.........

I had the 240 SD with 350 Mag. Great torque, popped skiers rights up. Great boat. Loved it. Top speed only 46 mph. That was the only drawback.

Maybe we should talk about my super screaming fast 260DA with the 350 mag that easily outperforms the 496 version. I think I recorded a top end of 95 knots with it the other day. Chuck1......you want to get in on this discusion?:smt043:smt043

We had a 220 Sundeck, standard engine. I thought it was 260hp(?) and it was far from sluggish! To my surprise, it performed great! Top speed close to 50mph GPS with magnificent conditions. I will admit that when pulling a tube, it took a significant amount of time before you could get up on plane (but that wasn't a huge surprise).

We have since upgraded to a 270 SLX which we love, but the 220 was certainly a great starter boat.

I remember that speedo you had Dave. Since mine is the cruiser model of the SD mine never made it over 55. (Grin)
