has anyone used a 'quat' disinfectant cleaner (ammonium salts) to successfully kill mold on vinyl upholstery?.....I have some stubborn mold stains on a couple seats and have been doing some research into different products to remove them and keep them from reappearing.....what I have come up with so far is to use bleach to initially kill the mold and remove the mold stains....then to keep the mold away i would need to keep the seats clean and wiped down with a quat disinfectant.....i can keep the bleach off of the threads in the seats by using a white wash cloth dampened with bleach and applying the bleach only on the stains....supposedly the quat disinfectant will keep the mold from coming back much longer than bleach (weeks vs. hours)....I don't believe the quat disinfectant will remove the mold stains (it is not an oxidizer) so I will have to use bleach initially to oxidize the stains...the quat cleaner will not damage the threads in the upholstery and will not remove color from cloth....it is also odorless and safer to use than bleach....

thanks.....

Are you talking about something like Obex?

well I looked at the MSDS for Obex and can't really tell what is in it but from the description on their website is does appear Obex is a type of quat disinfectant....

I've never used Obex. I use Spray 9 on about everything - clean / spray all my life jackets that are stored under seats etc with Spray 9 and it seems to help with prevent mildew.
