PVC Pipe In Engine Compartment

The guy I bought my boat from built some nice fishing rod holders in the engine compartment. The poles he used were quote a bit longer than the ones my kids use around the marina. So I wanted to build some extensions. Anyone think it is a bad idea to use PVC pipe? Appears the softening point of is around 190 degrees. Any issues? Much appreciated.
 
I would think that some schedule 40 pic would be fine. Maybe even use electrical PVC conduit? It may be more heat resistant...
 
1/2 of my sewage is done in PVC that runs right next to the motors I think you'll be fine.
 
Mark, can you post pics of what you have when you finish the project? I'd like to see what the racks look like.
