Morning Fokes : yesterday I was beginning the installation of my GPS and radio on my 1983 -310 . I removed the Starbard side dash / switch panel . and started looking around and found a purple wire running from the back of the Ignition / Starboard key and going no-where my wireing diagram just says it is an ignition wire, any ideas, BTW- my gas guage on that side doesnt seam to work , is it a lead for the gas guage ? Does anyone have a link to or a diagram for a 310 early to mid 80's sea ray the one i got from the sea ray site is a little vague.

When I remodeled the dash panel in my 1997 240 Dancer, I replaced all the gauges and thanks to a lot of help from the guys on this forum, I learned a bit about how these gauges are wired. The purple (violet) wire from the ignition switch is the 12v positive (+) lead that is switched (on/off) by the ignition switch. It provides the positive (+) 12v power to operate the gauge function. This violet wire is connected to all of the gauges in series. I am not familiar with your exact boat, but I suspect that this violet wire from the starboard ignition switch should connect to the "I" or "ING" post on ALL of the gauges for the starbord engine, including the fuel gauge. If your starboard fuel gauge is the last gauge in the series and is not working, then perhaps this violet wire has lost connection to the this gauge. It may be broken inside the insulation or corroded at the gauge terminal. Hope this helps... JOHN
