This summer I have noticed a new phenomenon with my outdrive trim system. It seems to cycle much slower (and quieter). When I trim the outdrive, it also makes a poping sound through the radio, and sometimes makes the radio shut-off for a few seconds. To me, it seems like the trim motor is pulling more amps and is working harder than it used to.

My questions is, should I purdge my outdrive trim oil and see if that fixes the issue? Maybe some water or condensation got in there and is causing issues? Any thoughts?

not an expert but the popping in the radio and shut off would indicate a high amp draw in the pump motor
to me. or possibly a corroded connection causing RFI

I will check the connection. I thought the same thing (high current draw). It only seems to happen at the high-end and low-end of the outdrive travel. Anything in the middle does not cause the pop (however the trim does go up and down VERY slow now). This issue just happened this summer.

Here is my update. My battery had a dead cell, causing low amperage and making the power trim slow. For some reason, when they wired my 2nd battery they put the bildge pump directly to the battery termanal (as opposed to the battery selector switch). The trim motor was hard-wired on the dead battery. New battery = no more issues :)

The bilge pump should be wired directly to one battery. That's so that when you turn off the battery switch (or switches) at the dock the bilge pump will still work and reduce the chance of the boat sinking. The power trim pump should be wired to the battery selector switch as well as everything else except stereo radio memory. It should be wired directly to a battery as well.
