Went to the marina to clean the boat this morning and stopped
to peak at the diesel price.....$5.80 per....HOLY S*IT:smt013....so I went into the office to pay a bill and commented on the cost and the person behind the desk (not the owner or manager) says something like "yeah..thats high...we aren't selling much diesel. Guess people are not using their boats." Brilliant !!!

So on the way home, I stop at a new waterfront fuel station in Chesapeake City and diesel is 4.80 per. Still high but......

So these guys at my marina try to milk every last cent out of the declining fuel using population while 20 miles up bay, I can get fuel for a buck a gallon cheaper. Guess what..not only do I get a nice boat ride but I can stop in at the Chesapeake Inn eat dinner for free if I use the cost of fuel at my marina as a baseline.....

Hey Tim, whats fuel in Rock Small....maybe I will take a free ride down there to fuel up. Sure as hell ain't fueling at Skippie's!!!

ask them if they are going to lower it now that the price of oil has gone down.

Hey, in Norway prices are now $10 per gallon, gas or diesel. Do I hear you complaint...:smt089

Yeah, and it's about 30 cents a gallon in Venezuela, but we're not buying it there either.

Frank,

Noticed how high your marina was while we were up there a few weeks ago...higher on gas and diesel than anywhere we had seen on the bay in 10 days of crusing. The place looked like it was being run by kids that were 16 years old. My buddy wanted to buy beer and no one working was old enough to sell it to him....

Josh

Come on now Frank.................fess up.............you're really selling the 410 so you can go back to blowboating aren't you?:wow:

Dave, Who tipped you off??? Was it Gary ??

Josh, You are right about the kids...They are taking a beating on "tips" I'll bet.

Same at my marina. About $1.00 more than a 15 minute ride north. Manager asked why I havent bought fuel from them yet this year as if he doesnt know its much cheaper elsewhere. SB

Frank:

Take a ride to Barnegat Bay and visit the secret spot. Based on today's quote, I can get you a fill up at my dock for $4.219.....the ride would be free with these kind of bargains....

Dpvandy01...I was being retorical......give me a break.

Lets see 40 miles and 1.something miles/gal at 1.00 a gallon savings and I need about 150 gallons....I think I can make out.

Still nursing the diesel we found when leaving BIH - $4.49 / gal

I'll never catch up to Skip this year.

Our marina was $4.80 when we left for a 10 day vacation. Our last stop was Herrington and they were getting $5.11. I thought, no way I'll just wait until I get home. Got home and now it's $5.05.

Frank, where in Ches. City are you talking about? The old Schaffer's isn't open yet is it?

:huh:Up here it seems that they are really trying to keep the price of Gas on the lake as low as possible & I think it is working.

There is not as much traffic (but not by much & maybe that's a good thing for Lake Regulars) & maybe going fast is in shorter spurts - but everything else is busy - camp grounds, cabins, resorts, bars & restaurants, etc.

I would think they make more from those things than fuel ?

I heard from a Gambling / Casino (Gaming Director) that gambling & booze sales actually go up during economic bad times:huh:

Aaron,
Yes, it's the old Shaffer's. Fuel dock is at the far West end of the dock. The Canal House (or whatever they are going to call it) is not open yet or at least it did not look open) As I said in my original posting, I can go to the Inn, have dinner, get fuel on the way home and will spend no more than if I filled up at Skippies.....

Anyone know what fuel is at Summit North or any place else on the Northern Chesapeake? Who would have ever thought that we would consider $4.50 + fuel a deal??

Some Marinas have taken the wise approach they keep the price of gas a low as they can. By keeping people out on their boats they will get more maintenance work, restaurant, and other business.

Too bad some Marinas would like to rape you with their high profit margins on the already high gas prices.

Shop around for the lower priced gas, and then support that Marina with your business. Send the others a message.

As the economy has slowed down, I've seen the two types of "small business people" out there. The first type, is the "I'm an idiot" type, thinks that as business goes down, they should raise their prices to make the same gross amount of profit at the end of the day. What they don't get, and why they failed out of college or economics or high school, is that people will then even by less as they raise the price. I had a guy come over to the house to do some brick work for a grill and wanted $4000 for a days work and he said it was because the economy was slow and he needed to make it "somewhere." He didn't get the job and the guy that charged a few hundred bucks did... he is the second type, and the one that passed high school, and knows that as the economy slows down, prices need to come down to keep people buying...

There will be corrections and the idiots that don't lower prices on their products/services will go out of business as they should.... Making $1+ per gallon profit on a gallon of fuel is record profit margin for a marina. They've never made that before this year. The bumble heads probably say "we need to make 25% profit" and so they'll say "Our profit margin is the same". Yeah... on a percentage basis... sounds like a "Democrat" talking taxes. Price fixes price.

It's gas for freakin' sakes. Not like they are selling back rubs and one is better than the other.
