This Winter, I will be purchasing a Sea Ray, EC 390 for the first time. I read all postings on this Forum, and I am slowly learning. I have heard pros and cons about this model, and I would like to know the membership feedback of their experience(s) with this boat. Any info would be helpful.

Do you have one in mind already? My slip neighbor is selling his, a pristine '84 always in freshwater with gassers. Let me know if you want to see pics ....

We bought our 1988 39EC 2 years ago. It'sthe best boat we've ever
owned. We've had a 36 Carver amd a 34 Silverton both Fly bridge Conv. we most enjoy the space, weight, and beam of the 39. Good luck in your search

I just purchased a 1985 390 in September. I spent over four months looking at all types of makes/models, but the 390 stood out because of her two private staterooms, wide beam, and shallow draft.

Mine has the 355 hp CATS; cruise with a clean bottom is around 22 kts. My surveyor- and others- told me not to even consider gassers for this boat- they're real pigs. I'd be surpised if the gassers don't have trouble even getting on plane- I need full tabs even with the diesels- and I never raise them; she runs best with tabs fully down even once on plane.

Mine has the usual problem with the cockpit seating modules that need replacement; pre 1990 they were built of mica covered plywood and rot/delaminate. Also, Sea Rays of this period are notorious for the side windows leaking like a sieve and causing a lot of interior damage. I found after purchasing that mine did leak quite a bit, but I've got most of it under control now. The dash area also leaks down into the cabin over the fridge area, and I'm still working on solving that one.

Honestly, though I've been quite pleased with the quality of the construction on the boat; she's held up really well for a boat of her vintage. No regrets on the purchase so far. Good luck
