454 mercruiser w/bravo III drive
My wife and I are looking into purchasing a 270 Sundancer with 540 hours on it. I've had my brother come check it out who is a marine mechanic and everything looks good with the engine (454) drive and a.c. We are also having a complete survey performed Thursday. Does anyone have any past experience with this model and what I can keep an eye out for? Also, for anyone who has or currently owns a 270 what are your pros and cons?

Looking forward to what you find out, Might be looking at this model soon.

Check the mid bilge for signs of water accumulation. The 270s have a habit of leaking water from the windshield/side window areas into the cabin bilge and can be a pain to track down and fix. I hope it works out for you, I really enjoyed my 270 when I had it!

Thanks for the heads up. I actually noticed water in the cabin bilge yesterday when I was on the boat and was wondering where it could have come from. Did you end up finding the leak and if you did how did you go about finding it?

I currently have one. I will give a +1 with regard to the B3 survey. They seem to be a weak point. I have no issues with mine other than having to replace most of the systems. There is tons of room in the engine room/bilge with the single 454.

As to performance, it is a little slow to plane, but once there is very well behaved. I am very pleased with mine and it is a well built boat in general.

Good luck with your survey. I agree with the others, the bravo III can be a issue, the only thing I have done with mine is change the bellows, if they are dry rotten and start to leak they can let in a good amount of water. A new outdrive will put a dent in the wallet also.
On mine the AC condensate and shower sump box had some fungus growing in it and the pump would not always come on, this was overflowing some water into the mid bilge area. The wife and I love the 270, plenty of room for the two of us for our weekend trips and week vacations.
Let us know how the survey goes. We also like to see pictures.

Mine also had water in the mid bilge. Also agree with the slow to plane comment. I switched to 4 blade props and that issue went away. Best upgrade I ever did. Awesome boat tho best of luck

I only saw water in there when it rained with the cockpit cover off, so I started with the windshield. Re-bedded the entire windshield and that stopped the water buildup. Definitely a 2 person job! My plan was to re-seal each component at a time until the water stopped coming in. (windshield -then- side window fittings -then- the deck rail fasteners) Luckily it was the windshield.

Hanger, did you have to remove the windshield totally or were you able to lift it a bit and rebed?

That sounds not good with the water.
Got also a 27 SE since some weeks and now the floor is wet. As well as the locker next to the microwave.
Hoped it was a fault of mine as i let the windows open at heavy weather and also tourned off the fridge (was iced).
Where will I find the cabin bilge? Somewhere under the table?

Cheers,
Kai

By the way,
that boat was the best I ever spent money for.
No bike, no fishing boat or anything else I spent my money gave me that feeling we got wen we are on the boat!
At present it is the perfect mixture of a familycruiser with enough space and the possibility for a decent fishing trip.
It's holiday every weeken..;-)

On your model it's under the step into the cabin under the garbage can opening, there's a clear plastic enclosure that holds the pump. The shower drain goes into it, if it's full of water the pump isn't working.
