Looking at 1998 270 da would appreciate any advice on the boat. I have read through the official thread already.

I had one what would you like to know. What's the beam? Wide version? 7.4 454 b 3
If its the wide beam. Check under the garbage can under the steps into the cabin for water. Very common very hard to find leak. Make sure the spending door and track are in good shape. Very big job to replace or repair.

Great boat lots of room for a 270 good economy (for aboat) I found it to be a little ass heavy tho and seemed to always list to starboard.

Make sure b3 drive is in good condition. Lots of corrosion problems with that year range.

I agree with everything Jon said. I also have a 98 270da and love it. Perfect size bout for my wife and myself. Nice cruising boat but you will find yourself moving excess weight forward to help get it on plane. I would recommend a survey before buying, sounds like a broken record but you could save big bucks down the road.
 
Is the boat underpowered with the 454? I am planning on a survey, and the door is kind of stiff. Thanks for the replies
 
I wouldnt say underpowered. But I would say theres not enough surface area on the props. I switched from 21p 3 blade props to 19p 4 blade and all the problema with power went away. With the 4 blade props I got on plane very quickly wi th a heavy load cruised much lower in the rpm range and. Wasable to go on long cruises without touching the throttle. But again I dont feel it was underpowered. As for tye cabin door if ts stiff I would say its probably on its way out. The only way to dlfix it the right way is to remove the helm. The entire fiberglass housing from your feet to the windhsield has to beremoved. If you do a search there are some people who found ways around it depending on if the top track or botom track was broken
 
I have a 2000 model. I didn't find mine to be underpowered by any means even with a full load on board.
Try cleaning and lubricating the tracks first. lot of crap gets in there.
 
B.matt I got my 99 270 da last year. It has the 454 w/B3. Plenty of motor for this boat. I also had problems with the slide blocks on the cabin door. I replaced the upper slide blocks this year. If you have to due it, check out my blog spot below. If you get this boat I believe you will really enjoy it. Remember its best to get a survey done so you know what your really getting.
