I have "at the dock" pump out service at my marina. I need to buy a pump out adapter that will work with my 280 Sundancer. When I checked at my local marine store there are a number of different sizes (1 5/8, 1 7/8, etc.) and some with fine and coarse threads. Looking for some advice on what size to purchase?

Thanks

Not sure about the 280 but on my 320 it's 1-1/2". If you need to, go to a West Marine and buy a few different sizes, try them and return the ones that don't work.

Bring the cap to your pump-out deck plate and match the adapter to it. Don't worry about leaving the holding tank uncapped. If anyone wants to steal from it, let them.

Best regards,
Frank

Good idea, Frank. If one of the other 280 owners on the site doesn't have the size, then this is probably what I will do. I'm hoping that Doug (Presentation) will come through for me!

My 260DA came with a screw in pump out adaptor. I would think your 280DA should have one also. You might want to ask your dealer about it before buying one.

You can go to Agri - Supply or the like and get the adapter for about a buck. The stainless ones are nice right up until you drop it over the side.

Darn, just paid $20 for one at the local marine store. Wish I would have seen your reply before the weekend. Anyway, I did find out that the Sea Ray cruisers take a 1 7/8" screw in pump out adapter (my only 2 data points are my 280 and my neighbor's 340) Hopefully this willl help someone else in the future.

I must be missing something. I've pumped out for 4 years and never needed an adaptor at any of the marinas in the Tampa Bay area. Whats a pump out adaptor???

A lot of the Ag stores only carry them in pipe thread....I got one from SeaLand to keep on board too because the knuckle heads always stripped the threads on the one furnished by the marina.

I've just stuck the nozzle in the deck fitting, but it has always seemed slow because of the suction loss I assumed, but I didn't know about this thing.

I have experienced 2 types of pump out "ends".

1. The tapered end that is held onto the tapered input on your boat. I am not a huge fan of these.

2. The type that uses the adapter mentioned earlier in this post. The pumpout will have a female end that accepts the end of the adapter mentioned earlier and lock into place with 2 levers providing for a nice connection that holds itself together and seems to not leak suction or other stuff.

Examples can be seen here

Most of the places we've been use the tapered rubber nozzle. As long as you push hard enough it works just fine. If you see a stray wave headed your way and the boat starts rocking be prepared for the dock spewing.

The Couer d'Alene Resort uses the adaptor, but we don't pump out there. The adaptor you need is on the boat ahead or behind you and you're stuck while they pump, fill, pump, fill, pump, fill and pump. You have to tip the dock attendant (worthwhile!) and yet 50 yards away is a FREE pumpout with no waiting. Go figure!

I hate lines and would rather do it myself and risk a dock bio-hazard than deal with that crowd. Besides, I can put my tyvek suit on faster than waiting to get the adaptor! The resort guests usually ask when we're going to move our garbage scow so they can get their 22-40 foot 2009 megayacht in. They usually bounce off our tied up boat I guess to let us know we really don't belong there? And "Sorry" apparently isn't in their vocabulary or they figured my boat IS the dock fender?

The marina I go to had a bucket of pump out fittings, and someone stole it a couple weeks ago. I was looking for what size to order to have one on my boat. I had no luck finding any real info online for my 1993 270DA. I found this one on Amazon and it it fits my 270 and my marina neighbor's 310DA.

By any chance, does anyone know size of pump out adapter I would need for my 2002 260DA.
