Being new to the area and as transplants from NY, the Admiral and I are looking to take the boat on a cruise over the Thanksgiving holiday. Ideally finding a decent spot to grab a traditional dinner on Thursday and just relaxing for the balance of the long weekend either at one or two additional stops.. We are based out of Elliott Bay.

Any recommendations from the area experts?

You have some great restaurants for Thanksgiving one of the best is the Palisades they have guest moorage at Elliott Bay Marina, Salty's on Alki has no dock there are public docks at Seacrest where the walk on ferry is docked but it's about a 1/4 mile walk. We usually eat at Salty's at Redondo no docks though. Palisades usually has 3 different meals you can choose from, Salty's is buffet style with Prime Rib, Turkey, Pork, Salmon just about everything you can imagine this is not your regular buffet some of the best food in the PNW.

Hi Tom, the sky is the limit.... What type of travel time are thinking of ?

We are noodling the idea of leaving Elliott Bay mid day Wednesday. As to timing, we could and would head north (to some destination) to the San Juan's but as I understand, the weather in November is highly unpredictable, although we love it up there....who doesn't right? We also plan on returning Sunday mid day.

Some recommendations I have thus far that accommodate a thanksgiving dinner are;

La Conner
Port Ludlow

Originally I was thinking to go to Victoria but just about everyone warned of high weather risk which could delay getting there or getting home.

Anything in South Sound that would fit the idea to just get off the dock for the long weekend and capture a Thanksgiving day dinner along the way?

Weather is a bit unpredictable this time of year, but for example you could cruise to Eagle Harbor, close by, well protected and the city of Winslow with lots restaurant choices.... Des moines marina, with great fuel pricing, Anthony's restaurant and the city of Des Moines all in walking distance, Foss waterway, glass museum, history museum, city of Tacoma & lots eateries, if a member of most yacht clubs you could stay @ Tacoma Yacht Club guest dock and they have a great dinner for Thanksgiving in the restaurant there and an Anthony's across the marina. This just a few, but the list could get quite extensive if you need more.... Poulsbo, go there !! (always a great time)

You're too late for Thanksgiving dinner in Victoria.

Thanks Mark. As I think more, I believe you and I talked by phone about 8 months back as I was planning the move from NY to WA and I picked your brain about possible moorage spots (fresh vs salt) and the like. We've been to Paulsbo a handful of times and love that spot. We may just try a destination in the south sound...split it up between Tacoma Yacht Club and Des Moines.

Poulsbo will be a good spot. If the wind is playing nice a run up to Everett (Anthony's) or Edmonds (Arnie's or Anthony's) is also good, with a decent sunset possibility.

My first thought when I saw the title was La Conner but really, you can’t have a bad weekend anywhere from Tacoma north. All of the small spots are nice…Langley, Coupeville, Roche & Friday Harbors. Oak harbor and if the weather is decent, which it looks like it will be, run through Deception Pass. Actually, if you do La Conner, then Swinomish Channel up and Deception Pass back, never disappoints. Sometimes in that area, the funnest times are just chasing the sun. Victoria is not a difficult run in your boat but I would save that for the spring and do Sidney as well.

Have fun.

Looks like the long weekend here was a bust weather wise. The sound was pretty angry all around since Wednesday. We ended up staying at our home port of Elliott Bay Marina and feasted at the Palisades restaurant. Quite a nice spread they put on! Thanks for all the suggestions.
