Someone on the San Juan rendezvous asked about the boating conditions in the northwest during our trip. I think they will be better than what you see in these photos taken about mid-October. Maybe a smaller boat will handle the long swells better than something a bit larger like this ferry?

But if the going gets tough, maybe you can fall in behind a Washington State Ferry, and let them break some waves for you. Just watch out for debris in the water behind the ferry.

I understand these photos were taken by a private party at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park using a 320mm lens.

Here at the WSF San Juan Islands Vessel Watch you can see the locations of the ferries in the San Juans, or you can see the route in the photos above at the Whidbey Island Vessel Watch.

Man the life boats!!

Nothing like a good cleansing in salt water to keep that car in tip top shape! I've ridden those ferries and the distance from the water to the bridge is a LONG way up! I can't imagine how rough it would have to be to have it splash way up there! I think if it's that rough, I'll just sit tight and wait for the storm to pass.

These ferry pictures are typical of our fall/winter marine weather. Summer is typically much calmer. Of course like any water, watch the forecast and have a few days padded into the schedule in case of bad weather.
