5.0 MPI w/ B3 outdrive
I've brought this topic up before but now I'm serious about new propellers. We just finished our annual camping/boating trip to Prineville Reservoir located in Central Oregon. This reservoir has an elevation of about 3200'. That combined with eight people and a 5.0 MPI turning 22P three bladed props with a B3 outdrive (2.2 gear ratio) results in an absolute dog of a boat when trying to pull people out of the water. Max RPM is 4430 @ 39 mph. At sea level, I can get about 4900 RPM for about 46 mph. So I know I need new props for the high elevation lakes. My question is does anyone have an opinion on what to get? I've been looking at both Solas and Signature. Solas sells a 20P set they call a 4x3, where the forward prop is four bladed and the rear is three bladed. Signature sells the "Four by 4" series where both props are four bladed. Is there such a thing as too many blades for hole shots? I realize more blades = more drag at higher speeds but I only need about 30 mph for slalom skiing. I'm looking for the best hole shot I can get. Does anyone have experience with either of these propellers?
