Looking for referral on a Prop Scan shop. I'm on Long Island and the closest one on the Prop Scan website is Pitch Perfect Propellers in Stanford Conn. Has anyone used this shop or any other in my vicinity ? Thanks....

Sorry, no but let me know how you make out. Btw if you are paying to ship, put them on the PJ ferry, I can pick up and deliver in CT for you if it helps.

Call first.
I dont think he's there anymore.

Hey Russ,

Thanks, greatly appreciated...... However, Air O' Nautical is correct (Thanks), he is not there anymore... Although I didn't leave a message, Chuck Grey did call me back and said he can do it for me. I happen to be in New Rochelle for business and brought the props with me. He said to leave them with Precision Marine right in New Rochelle and he will pick them up on Weds. He will do a free scan with print out to see if they need any reconditioning and if so, will have them back to me in a week.. Also has the equipment at his house so he said his price can be very competitinve with the low overhead so all sounds good...... We'll see...... I let you know..

Chuck Grey did my props a few years ago. Great job on the props and a fast turn around. Very reasonable pricing too.
I'll use him again the next time the need arises.

How did it work out with Chuck?
I am needing my props tuned up.

Worked out great....I am able to tell how accurate they are by my Smartcraft guage which shows they are within 1% of each other in respects to the load on the engine. The price he charged was extremely reasonable compared to what I had paid in the past for the same service (1/3 the price). Just be specific on wheather you want and ISO Class S(Very High Accuracy) or Class I(High Accuracy). If you need his number, let me know and I will PM you.

Cod, what is the difference between the S and I? How do you know what you need? Mine have never been looked at, 4 seasons and 235 hrs. Not even sure if I need to do, but don't think it can hurt.

I would be very surprised if you didn't need your props balenced, it is usually well worth the cost. If your props are in decent shape they should be able to get them to class S, but even class 1 is pretty good. See the link attached, it gives some good info on the ISO class specs.

I'm not a prop expert, but the difference between and S and an I are the various tolerences for several different things that are measured on a prop. You can go to www.propscanusa.com to see the acctual difference % wise. Now, there is very little difference between S & I but why not go for the most accurate so that you are getting the smoothest ride and most efficiency. If you havent't had your props checked in several years it may be worth having it done.

I can tell you that when I first purchased my boat, I noticed a difference on the load guages of about 7%, maybe more. I really didn't notice any vibration. I had a mechanic check the engines and everything checked out fine. He suggested having the props checked and suggested a prop scan shop. I followed his advise and on the sea trial noticed a much smoother ride and the load guages were dead on.
