The prop that was on my boat when I bought it is in need of reconditioning, so I bought what I think is an all purpose prop - 14 1/4 inch 19p three blade aluminum Turning Point. The prop to be reconditioned is a Quicksilver Mirage stainless three blade 23p. Boat is an 06 185 Sport with 4.3l 190 hp. What differences should I expect between the two once the original is repaired? Also, it has been opined by a friend that a 23p might be a little too aggressive for this motor. Any input is appreciated.

Easy to check. Look up the WOT spec for that Merc engine. If your prop turns that WOT you are good to go.

Find a good prop shop and go with their recommendations.
If you don’t have any locally then google PropMD. I used them several years ago and they were great.

Thanks for replies. As it turns out, my WOT with the current 23p stainless prop came in at 4200, about 200 rpm below recommended range lower limit. I decided to go with a 21p, on the advice of the prop shop. They said the 19p might be underpropped given the data. Don't care to have to worry about watching rpm that closely. Will update with results, thanks again.

Better to be a little underpropped than over. Good choice.
