I have a new to me 2004 Sea Ray 215 with a 5 ltr Mercruiser engine and outdrive. Been a long time since I owned one of these. Any idea what the torque would be for the prop nut, I can't seem to find anything in the manual regarding this. I know there is a lock ring so I don't think it will take much, but would like to be sure.

55 seems to ring a bell. But don't take my word for it. Did you check in the Mercruiser manual or the Sea Ray manual? I thought it was in the Merc manual, but I could be wrong. It's been so long since I've actually looked for it (or actually use a torque wrench on a prop nut). I usually just torque it till my elbow clicks twice. :smt001

Edit: Oh, if the nut spins on easily it's time to replace it - the nylock part of it has worn out. Same thing if the locking ring's tabs look like they've seen better days.

Thanks Dennise, good advise. i will look again in the manual. I have seen mechanics put props on before without using a torque wrench so I know what you mean. I will look again to see if I can find something.

The torque is 55 foot pounds Minimum accrording to the alpha service manual number 14.:smt024:smt001

Oops, sorry DENNIS. Thanks boat tech, much appreciated. I looked in the manual again and it's not there. Appreciate the help.

That's actually the second time this has happened within a week. Maybe somebody knows something I don't... :smt101

Don't worry, Tolly - no offense taken. I've heard you "way North" guys march to the beat of different drummer! :smt001
