Prop loose in keyway

Not sure what you mean, but here are two scenarios.
If you mean the prop is loose on the shaft, then you need to loosen the nuts and retighten. This happens when the props were not fully seated when installed, and now there is movement from them moving forward, this will cause wear on the hubs and keys and key ways.
If you mean the prop is tight on the shaft, but there is a little movement in the key in the keyway, this is not uncommon, and as long as it is not excessive (like the key being undersize) it is a little assurance that the prop is not binding on the key from it riding up the keyway. Both of my keys have a little tiny bit of movement in them. I can reach in with the tip of a pen and wiggle the end of the keys. They can't come out because of the taper of the shaft fore and the prop nut aft, and some are pinned. Hope this helps

Hi Guys,
Just an update on that loose prop. Some how it was not all the way up on the shaft. We did strike something in the water but props blades were ok. We removed the prop and the key. Reseated the prop without the key and marked it. Removed the prop, installed the key and the prop up to the mark and tightened up the nuts and good to go. Also my keys are pinned so the cannot move.
