I bought a 1997 290DA recently that needs new canvas.
This boat is a half model year boat. Sea Ray changed models half way through the year, so it's not exactly cut and dry what canvas I need. The hull number should clear it up, or so I thought.
I contacted Great Lakes Boat Top, and after a bit of back and forth we got it sorted out as to what exactly I need and verified that they do in fact sell the canvas I need.
At the time there was a 25% off sale running, but I hadn't closed the deal on the boat. Once I had bought the boat, the sale was over but I was advised that there would be another one coming.
I then discovered Marine Max also sells the same canvas, which is manufactured by Great Lakes, and was running a 15% sale.
Great! I sent in the info and about a week later got a response questioning my hull number because of a discrepancy.
The email I got back from Marine Max was forwarded to the same exact person I was dealing with at Great Lakes. They just quoted this boat not two weeks earlier. How could there be an issue?
i called Marine max and explained the situation, and never heard from them again. Several calls and emails went unanswered.
I then call Great Lakes and speak with the sales person. She clearly remembers me, quoting both orders and dealing with Marine Max. I tell her I can't contact them. She gives me a phone number to a salesman she generally deals with and sends me back to Marine Max.
I call and leave a message. No response.
I call the central office in Florida and speak with another salesman requesting a quote and give him all my information again. He assures me he will get the quote right to me. If not that same day then certainly the next.
Yup, you guessed it. Never heard from them again.
Obviously Marine Max does not need my money, and knows very little about customer relations.
They will not be earning my business, and I would warn anyone else here to proceed with caution.
At least at this point I have nothing invested but time.
I guess I'll just wait for Great Lakes to have another sale.
