Hi again;
I have been with my 185BR all summer and is everything ok but when I don´t start it on 3 days o more after It is very difficult to start it. Then when start the fisrt time allways start very good, but the fisrt one.
Thank you

Not much to go on here, but it sounds like its not holding the fuel up in the carburetor. Could be the fuel pump or the carburetor needs rebuilt.

Thanks, I think that this motor have mecanical fuel pump, and I don´t think that if when is hot run perfect the problem can be the carburator. My motor have a 4bbl carburator and I read that when don´t use it the gas go back to the deposite and how the pump is mecanical it have a long time to put gas on all the circuit and the carburator.
Any idea???
Thanks in hot start very well.

So my 4.3 is a little newer, but is also carbureted. After a week or more of not running the fuel in the carburetor bowl evaporates out. I have found the following procedure for starting to work best:

1. Turn key and let motor turn over 5 - 10 seconds - this fills the carburetor bowl.
2. Put in neutral, pump throttle once or twice - this sets the choke and puts a squirt or two of fuel down the carburetor throat.
3. Turn key - engine should fire right up.
4. Depending on how choke is set, might need to advice throttle slightly so it will idle until it warms up.

Following the above procedure mine starts right up and idles just fine whether it's been sitting 1 week or 2 months.

Bill is right on with his post. Do you advance the throttle, and pump the gas before you try to cold start? If so maybe the carb needs a cleaning.

Thanks, yesterday I lost my battery trying start it (on the trailer), today have full battery and I will go to try start again, I wanna try to pump gas with the decatador pump (Where you clean the gas of water), but I allways go with the boat on the trailer and it is very dificult put gas on the carburator all the days and always think that I ´m going to drove the motor (when the garburator is full of gas). I supose that my boat with the throttle only put the starter but don´t pump gas because the pump is mecanichal and only work when the motor turn over.
Thanks

Ok, I had been on the boat now, with full baterry and with the pump of the decantador, It started at first, but You have to rememeber that yesterday I tried about 10 min before the battery was worm.
The next day I will pump a lot of time (before I pumpped 3-5 time always) until I note the gas on the circuit, so maybe the start will be better.
Thanks

Chivis - follow those steps I posted, if it doesn't start following that procedure something else is wrong. If you still have problems, take the flame arrestor off and:

1. Make sure fuel squirts down the carburetor when you pump the throttle - this confirms there is fuel in the bowl and the accelerator pump is working.
2. With engine cold, pump the throttle once. Make sure the choke is set - butterfly valve across top of carburetor should be closed except for 1/8".
3. Once the engine starts, the choke butterfly valve should open within 1-2min.

There could be other problems, but this is a basic check that the carburetor is getting fuel and the choke is setting. Remember the choke creates a vacuum that causes more fuel to be sucked into the carburetor to assist with a cold start. If you are having to crank it a lot and pump the throttle then choke is not adjusted and working properly.

You should not have to "put gas" in the carburetor everyday, cranking the engine over 5-10 seconds should fill the bowl - then 1-2 pumps and start - simple. Sounds like you might be thinking about pouring gas down the carburetor? Don't do that except to troublshoot a no start fuel problem, it won't really help, probably will flood the engine and can be dangerous (it can backfire through the carburetor and burn you!).

Carbureted engines can be tempermental especially when starting cold, but if the carburetor and choke are adjusted properly, following my procedure above, it will start right up everytime. If your engine is running and starting fine once warmed up, you don't have much of a problem, it's your starting procedure or the choke adjustment. Keep it simple!

Like Blaster said, some carburetor cleaner cannot hurt - I would try that also.

If you are not comfortable working on the carburetor, find someone to help you, you can really make things a lot worse if you do not understand what you are doing.

Thanks billt.
I don´t have put gas everyday, when used the boat many days, the first one start bad, but the other days start very well. my problem I think can be the trailer, I always when use the boat, put it over trailer a move it about 1 week, in this time the gas go back to the deposite and with the mecanhical pump is very difiicult put gas on all circuit. I always give to the cebador pump 5 time, but I think that when I travel with it i will pump 10 o more times. The carburator is cleaning for Jun 2016, so I don´t think that this will be the problem, and when it don´t star sound like if the carburator don´t have gas, when have gas start perfectly. And like you said when I know how make it, it will be easy, but I have to probe different solutions. I will try like you say the next time.
Thanks

Thanks, Today push the cebador until to ear gas, and I make like you said, full trohtle and perfect, start very well but I had a problem different but I will open another thread.
Thanks for all
