Priming water pump

Just changed my raw water pump on my 8.1L 496 HO. Does it need to be primed before starting? If so, whats the best way? It is on the trailer now, but ready to splash it soon.

Should be self-priming....

When you put the boat in, water will be forced up towards the pump under pressure.

Upon starting, the pump will take over.
