Cat 3126 diesels, 350 hp x 2
Hi guys, I'm very new to cruisers and inboard diesels. I have been boating while
fishing on a 26ft center console skiff with a 250 hp outboard for at least 20 yrs. I just bought a 2000 mdl Sedan Bridge 400 with 850 hours on her cat 3126's 350 hp.

I seek your advise on how to properly keep her in shape and shinning all the time. I live in the Philippines and in the island where im based, there are no marinas. I will keep her moored in the coast. Is it possible to build a trailer for a boat this big? I am not thinking of hauling her on the highways. Just to tow her to a shelter with a roof so that the sun doesn't beat up the gel coat.

I have often read here about rubber impellers. How often should they be replaced? The old owner who has had her for 250 hours has never replaced them yet. He says he only changed the filters on the oil and fuel.

How about the oil? How long could engine oil last in these engines? Can I use automotive motor oil like the ones that go on diesel trucks or does cat have a special oil?

When moored, how often should i fire up the engines to avoid growth ? The waters
where we live are not clean. We have a lot of trash floating around. Where can i find the water inlets on the boat?

I will end here for now. I will really appreciate your advices. Thank you in advance.

Your impellers should be changed every other year or @ 200 hours. If you let them go longer you risk the impeller vanes breaking off and getting hung up in the heat exchanger.

The 3126 Caterpillar requires either CAT SAEO oil, part #170-5262 (SAE 30) or 170-5261(SAE 40) or you can use a heavy duty diesel oil in single viscosity like Rotella T or Delo 400. Do not use automotive oil or multiviscosity oils. Change the oil every year or every 250 hours, whichever comes first.

Bottom condition is largely based on your local waters so how long the boat can sit will vary.

The water intakes are under the boat .......total of 4

Enjoy your new boat............

Thank you for that advice Sir. Can u help me with the impeller part number? Can I just order from West marine?
