Prestolite Trim Pump Repair or Upgrade?

My 82 Sea Ray 225 EC is having some trim troubles. Trim raises the drive fine but will not lower. The motor/pump acts like it is pulling though it sounds strained . Drive will eventually drift down over a couple of hours. I have replaced the rams and drained/replaced all fluid but the problem persists. I suspect problems in the pump's valving. The pump is a Presotlite w/ remote reverse lockout. These pumps (or parts for them) are hard to find. I am thinking about doing a full conversion to a new style pump, bypassing the remote lockout. Anyone out there ever completed this conversion? Or, any advise on having the Presotlites valve body rebuilt?

used pumps are easy to find
the conversion is quite expensive and not fun as all of the hydraulic lines must be changed
my pump got sick and I found out it was the lockout valve adjustment all along
