Powerboat reports finished their one-year test of bottom paints and the results are in ... Pettit Hydrocoat, the standard bottom paint used by Searay came out as one of the winners. seems SR has picked the best all-around bottom paint for their OEM job.

I let you know in a year but I seriously doubt that the bottom paint that Sea Ray used on my 260DA will look very good by that time. I have been told by several people at my Marina not to expect more than a year before having to redo it.

I don't know about you guys on freshwater lakes, but on the coast after 9-12 months, new Sea Ray bottoms look pretty bad. Not only do they foul from marine growth, but if the owner uses an underwater cleaning service, there are usually bare spots in the oem bottom paint. I think the paint must be aprayed on because it is thin.

When I see a new, yet to be sold, still in inventory, 8 month old 52DA hauled for a complete bottom job it makes me wonder if new boat buyers are getting what they pay for...........

It is also my understanding that the factory bottom paint is guaranteed by Sea Ray for a year. Undoubtedly, I will want to take advantage of that guarantee if it fails.

BTW Frank..........I do believe the bottom paint is rolled on from what I can tell on mine
