well... add another issue to my growing list! it appears that the port side power steering cooler is shot. the mechanic has told me that he thinks the engine will have to be removed to replace the cooler because of the tight fit. anyone have any experience with this? he estimated that the cooler was $300-$500. i cant imagine how much this is going to cost total. any advice would be appreciated!

I think he's right on the engine removal. I have a freind with a 320 and he had steering issues and his motor had to be pulled to fix it. Not sure on costs but I think labor is probably around $100 per hour plus materials,

OUCH! Seems ridiculous that an engine needs to be removed to replace a flippen' power steering cooler...

Can an electric pump be used in its place? If you can replace a mechanical oil pump with an electic one do not see why it can not be done with an electic power steering pump. If you can find the specs on the pump you have you should be able to find an electic equivalent one on the net. Any one done this type of modification?
