Power Steering Fluids

L&G,

We are headed north from Ft. Lauderdale and are low on power steering fluid or Hydraulic fluid. The manual says to use Mil Spec.#5606. It's Sunday as you can see and we can't locate a dealer or info yet to know what type of fluid will work since nohing we find so far has any Mil Spec # referenced. Does anyone know presently what we can use?

Can we use automotive power steering fluid or some type of hydraulic fluid? Could use an awser ASAP if you know or can find out as we are at a marina in GA. for the night.:smt100

Most West Marine, Boat Owners Warehouse, or other marine shops will sell Marine Hydraulic Steering Fluid. The brand I bought is Teleflex Sea Star, which is the brand of hydraulic steering I have on my inboards.

Thanks for the info but I don't think the Mercrusier uses the same type of fluid probably as larger inboard steering systems.

Anyone know specifically what can be used?
