Hey folks, real quick question
That sun pad that fits over the motor and the back of the rear seats that basically allows you to lay out flat on top of the back, what's that called? Is it a sunpad?

Also, does anyone know if/where they sell them? I've got a 180 sport with the configuration that there are 2 bucket type seats in the back and the motor has the hard plastic shell on top. I know there is another configuration where that "sunpad" is part of the piece that opens to get to the motor. I'm just looking for the pad piece and was wondering if anyone had done this before.

thanks
Jim

That sunpad you ask about is generally an optional configuration built by the factory. Check SR archives for confirmation. MM

Another option would be to have something custom built. We did this a long time ago with 18' Glastron - it had the base setup you describe, and we had someone build a custom sunpad type of platform. The dealership made all the arrangements, as they had access to people who specialize in this sort of thing. It came out really nice, was done to OUR spec, and actually cost a lot less than I would have expected.

It's called a Bimbo Baker

This is going to be a very costly venture for you. Plus, it likely will look odd when it's done. My suggestions is to live with it or by a new boat.

I had a new sunpad made for my stingray. It wasn't the only part that rotted but it was the most costly to replace. I had it done locally and it turned out great. I had the wood coated with a resin and used cushier padding and better quality vinyl. All for only $800.00. Get your wallet out though cause that was 12 years ago so I'm sure prices have gone up.

Plus, his was never designed with one to start with. So custom modification (and the price tag that goes along with it) comes into play.

You have one of the "Aft Jump Seat" configurations. I know some Sea Ray's offer a filler pad that fits in over the aft jump seats, and makes up a full flat sunpad for you. I looked at the gallery photos for your boat on Sea Ray's website, and you seem to have some sort of support configuration at the "armrests" and the motor housing that would support such a filler pad. The spec. sheet for the boat doesn't show an optional filler pad. Anyway, it may be worth digging into the archives of later years of your boat to see if a filler was offered, or visit your dealer and see if you can find such an item.

The 2006 205 Sport with aft Jump Seats came with such filler pads - you can see them in this factory photo:

Good Luck!

The motorbox on his boat is curved on top and not flat so it would require some serious customization including rigging up a new box with a flat top to support the weight. I don't understand why sea ray did this because they had a perfect but slightly underpowered boat in the 180 br 2001 and prior. So they shrunk the length and beam. Took away the sunpad jumpseat combo and passed it off as somehow better? Best bet would be to find a new boat. Too bad you need to move up all the way to the 205 to have this configuration.

Dave - the pics there of the "jump seat" configuration are not what he has (I think the pics are actually of a 185). He has a hard motorbox with no pad. It was not designed with a pad in mind for the jump seat setup.

By the way, the "filler pads" for the 205 are simply the seats. Get it.... They "jump" up to form a sunpad!
