My son & I have been cleaning, waxing, wet-sanding, rehabbing interior wood work. We're about 75% complete. Just wanted to post some pics. Yes, the outdrive needs to be painted, and will have to wait until she's pulled from storage.

There are some before/after pics of the transom. Before/after of the hull beneath the water. There's my son, wet-sanding where I cannot get to. What a kid! (earned him Call of Duty)

Not uploading photos! Great!

Great job! I like the pride you show in your Boy! Isn't it great when our son's help us? It gives us the chance to hang out with them, without them knowing we are hanging out with them! Some of the best memories I have with my boat are when my son and I work on a project together. Boating, Brings families together in many ways.

Those are memories that will last a lifetime. When I was 12 I helped my Dad repaint the boat trailer for our little 14' aluminum skiff. I sand blasted it, primed it with zinc chromate (illegal now) and put 2: coats of marine enamel on it. Now...we talk about it as it is sitting at the family farm...45 years later looking almost as good as new!!! I'll never forget the lessons learned working on that old boat with my Dad.

Kevin/Sprink,

Thank you for the kind words. Trying to instill some values, like my dad taught me. The deck we built some 30 years ago is still standing, and looks about 5 yrs old. My son is wonderful, and he was a great help. I must confess that he hemmed & hawed a bit. While he was under there, he worked his tail off with his only complaint being "dad, get me a towel, there's water dripping in my eyes!". Earned him Call of Duty.
Anyway, We do enjoy the time together (at least I do).

Can I ask what type of stain you used to redo the wood. I also have a 1983 SRV225 and I am in the process of restoring it. Additionally, did you have to restore the anchor hatch as that will be a process I am doing before this boating season. If possible I want to convert mine away from the original wood. I saw that you had the same problem I had with the "glove compartment" coming down and put a snap strap to keep it up. I cannot believe Sea Ray never thought that would be an issue.

Great job in restoring.

Chris

Chris,

I need to post a pic of the anchor box hatch that i had made for me. I had it made from marine plywood with a teak veneer finish. I replaced the original trim, and covered all with Sikkens - Cetol (I also used a new latch). It looks awesome (IMO). I will most likely do the same for the foredeck hatch as well.

As for the interior, the trim pieces are teak, and need cleaning/sanding/acetone wipe/2 - 3 coats of sikkens-cetol. The flat panels (not real wood) i mixed some stains that I had laying around to get that reddish/brown thing going, and after cleaning the panels, applied several coats (allowing plenty of dry time - 24 to 48 hrs between coats). then I applied sikkens/cetol.

The "glove box" was held up with the butt-end of an old hockey stick when I got the boat. There are actually 2 straps (i want it to stay up). Needed the change. It's not perfect, but it works...

The fish-box hatches were re-done with King-Starboard, and original trim. The original hatches were rotten (one beyond repair).

Great Job!
It's great having your son lend a hand. My 9 year old helped me winterize the boat and clean it all up before we put it to sleep for the season. He was eager to help. He couldn't do too much, but really felt important about the things he did do for me.
I really loved spending the time with him this way.

Ive finished my transom door yesterday, all i need is a new strap for it .I had it cut out of seaboard by soroc plastics its 3/4 thick, then scrubbed sanded and bleached the teak and 7 coats of spar varnish.TA DA !!

I have very fond memories of boating with my dad. We used to go out at least every other day to go tubing, skiing, wakeboarding, and kneeboarding. Sometimes we would go out all week, every afternoon. We made it out for 3 weeks straight, every night. I also have incredible memories of riding motorcycles with my dad. I bought a small Honda Rebel when I was 15, got my permit, and rode everywhere with him.

I really hope to have memories like this with my kids (when I have them!). That was one of my reasons for buying a boat. I hope to give them the same amazing experiences I had.

As you can see in the pics, the original Anchor Box Hatch was white w/ teak trim. the new hatch was made out of marine lumber/teak veneer, then the original teak trim. The finish is 3 coats of Sikkens-Cetol.

Oh, the bow rail was crunched when I bought the boat. Had a new "front section" made. IT connects to the original at the second stantion back from the bow. never know it's been fixed.
