I am interviewing for a position that I would require me to relocate from Chicago to Indianapolis? I would like to ask the group the following:

1.) Where do you boat in Indianapolis?

2.) How is the boating in Indianapolis?

3.) How big is the lake that you boat on?

I thank you all in advance for your responses.

I'm in Indy, and I boat at Lake Monroe, and Brookville Lake. There is also Giest Reservoir here in Indy, but for a 320 your best bet is Lake Monroe in Bloomington Indiana. About an hour and a half south of Indy. Its the states largest lake. A few different marinas are there, I have heard bad things about Four Winds myself. We trailer our boat so we can go between there and Brookville Lake. Brookville is just a bit further than Monroe, but closer to Cincinnati. A few forum members keep there boats slipped there. Nice lake, but quite a few underwater trees near the shoreline and about half the size of Monroe. I do believe there is a 340DA slipped there. On Monroe I think the biggest is a Cruisers 420.

Firecadet 613, C-Side and Heatwave, Thank you for the information it is appreciated. I guess I have been spoiled here in Chicago where the water is so close.

I live on the far north side of Indy. The small lakes around Indy are Eagle Creek (9.9 power limit), Geist and Morse. These are too small and crowded for anything but party tie-up and residents with homes on the water.

Monroe is nice and as large as indicated but half of it is idle zone. Monroe is the only lake I see boats your size. It is rough on the weekends when lot of boats churn up the open area. Monroe has nice docks and marina. It is near Bloomington, IN, which has lots of restaurants, shops, and bars. (IU)

Mississinewa is 90 minutes north of Indy and has a similar amount of open water but much less idle zone. This lake was closed for repairs to the dam, I believe, and is not as crowded as Monroe since reopening. This lake is very remote with no restaurants near but is quite peaceful through the week.

We like to go to Lake Michigan when the conditions are favorable for small crafts. Michigan City is two and a half hours while New Buffalo is two hours forty-five minutes. We like to launch at Michigan City and go to New Buffalo or South Haven for lunch or dinner.

Most likely you will either travel to Lake Michigan and keep your current boat or get a trailerable boat (probably not what you want to hear).

I am also a Realtor, so if you relocate to the Indy area, I would be happy to assist you. We are approved by most relocation companies as we are with the #1 firm in Indiana. I was also the #1 agent in my office last year and previous years. Sorry, not trying to be a troll. J

MonacoMike,

Thank you for the information, it is deeply appreciated. If you can send me your contact information via the private message function on this site that also would be appreciated. If this comes to fruition it would be nice to have a fellow boater I can trust.

Thanks,
Phil'n Nauti

Our slip neighbors in New Buffalo are from the NE burbs of Indy. They make it every weekend.

Having used all of the bodies of water mentioned so far, I would recommend you put the boat in Michigan City, and if you can, live on the northwest side of Indy. The 320 is too big of a boat to be caged in a small inland lake. It will be sad, and will rebel by breaking down.

I can second this. The cost of a slip up there will be cheaper than at Monroe or Brookville, and depending on where in Indy you live, it'll be about the same drive time. I'm two hours to Monroe, or Michigan City, from a nice suburb on the NW side of Indy.

Sfergson727 & firecadet613,

I am in agreement with you both, I am currently on the Chain of Lakes in Northern IL and while it is fun it is a pain going through so many no wake areas. So I agree the 320 would probably like to cruise the big lake.

Lake Wawasee is a great place to be. a lot of people from Indy. slips are available. the sand bar is a great place to hang out meet people and party. It doesnt get much better.
