2006 260 Sea Ray Sundancer that was a vandalized recovery, it was being stripped of power train (motor and outdrive) are out and off the vessel but are included, air conditioning, and all other components are intact. If you go on ebay and type: 2006 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer,6.2 Mercruiser Bravo 3 Recovered Theft, Insurance. You can see all the pics. This company bought the boat from the insurance company and looks like I can get the boat for about 21,000. I am currently in afghanistan so unable to visit ft lauderdale to personally check it out. Condition as follows, exterior hull solid, gelcoat shows good and is glossy has minor scratches, interior upholstery shows good but some cushions show some stains, exterior upholstery shows good, interior shows overall very good, canvas shows good, systems look to be in good condition but unable to test, 6.2 Mercruiser is out of boat and seems to be intact and confirmed to crank over, clean oil, motor appears to be very clean low hour of use, outdrive Bravo 3 also is intact and apears to work with clean oil, transom looks in very good condition with bearing and bellows in working condition.

looking for some advice. Should I buy or leave it alot. Nada prices this boat for almost triple the price, even with severe mechanical and cosmetic blemishes. Any help would be appreciated.

This looks to be the boat you are speaking of http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006...pt=Power_Motorboats&hash=item27d1660fc2#v4-45

That's a tough call without seeing it in person and understanding the history a bit better. In one photo the arch is missing. I wonder what that's all about?

My recommendation would be to pass unless you know someone who can look at it for you. And I certainly would want a Marine Surveyor to look at it as well and give you a thorough list of everything that's missing or will have to be replaced or repaired.

Right now 2006 260's can be had for between $40K and $60K depending on condition and options.

I agrre with Dave... too much risk!

Most people will advise against buying a boat sight unseen. Unless you verify everything yourself, it's probably a bad idea to take the sellers word for it. At the very least have a surveyor/agent look at it for you.

Values of boats vary widely. I wouldn't follow NADA. Look at Boattrader, EBay, Craigslist... to see what they are actually selling for. Keep in mind these other boats haven't been torn apart by criminals looking to turn a quick buck. I'm not saying you can't put this back to the way it should be, but it's going to cost you and personally I would take that into consideration if I were buying the boat from whoever put it back together. It's kind of like buying a car with a salvaged title. Some are worth it, some aren't.

Just a little food for thought; if this were truly a deal, why is it still for sale?

Great advice guys, thanks for all the help. The seller is saying the title is clean and clear, thats obviously not the case. If I bought it for 20 and had to put another 10 in it I still believe I would be getting alot of boat for less. However, I am not a big risk taker and if you guys think it has potential to cost more to fix than I will have to postpone being a sea ray owner for now.

Q: Interested in boat but I noticed one pic the radar arch in missing is it on the boat now thanks Apr-07-13A: Hello, when vessel was recovered the arch was off, arch was installed by us to facilitate movement to transport and so not to damage. Thank you for that question. Capt Anthony

I looked at many boats and some I got servey before I commited to go see them. One surveyor called me and said boat looks fine except for. We went over the defects and we decided not a good deal.
Once some one told me to offer what it was worth to me not what the seller wanted. I bought a modular house for what it was worth to me not what the seller wanted. They wanted 45,000 I offered 20,200 and they accepted it. If I was interested in this boat I would offer 10,000 or less with the condition a survey looked at it first. Put a time limit on the offer. Get a lawyer to do the paper work for you. If the seller accepts your offer.

You would most likely have to have to put alot more than 10K into that boat imho

The seller appears to work at/for a marina... If it was such a good investment, why doesn't HE put it back together and sell it for $50K?

If people worked half as hard making money as they did trying to get a "deal" they could just pay retail and be ahead...

This is a bad deal.
