My neighbor would like to get a 15 gallon tank on wheels for her husbands b-day. He is tired of using 5 gal cans to refuel the boat at his dock. Does anybody use one they like or have any recommendations. Thanks

When we had our CC I used to think about doing the same thing (we have a dock behind our house). The thing to remember is that this carrier is going to weigh about 90 to 100 pounds. (I seem to recall gas weighs about 6-6.5 pounds per gallon). Getting it from the gas station, out of the car/truck and down to the dock is going to get old real fast.

In our case it meant rolling it down a dirt path through the woods. All of the gas caddies I looked at were not really designed with 'all terrain' wheels. In fact in a couple cases the plastic wheels and axle on my trash cans looked better built.

So when I applied an aggravation factor, and the cost, I realized I could go to the Yacht club and fill up at the gas dock (at the higher price) for three years before I would break even the fancy gas caddy.

I have this 14 gallon caddy.

I use it a couple times per month to "bump" the fuel level between visits to the fuel dock.

The wheels, and the hose/handle are junk. I picked up 2 better wheels at Harbor Freight, and then I picked up some real Goodyear 3/4" fuel hose from the auto parts store. I did not put the handle back on the new hose.

I fill it up on the ground and put it wheels first into the trunk of the Sentra. That part isn't too difficult. Getting it out of the trunk and down the dock is no problem. The hard part is simply carrying it the 4 feet from the dock to the boat. I bring it completely on board and set it on the cockpit sink. The hose screws on, and I simply run it around the back of the arch and stuff the end into the tank. I turn on both valves and she fills the tank. Nice and easy.

Thanks for the input. To be honest I would rather use the 5 gallon cans, infact I do when my boat is at his dock.

Another possible issue is that they stopped making rotary pumps for the caddies, so it's all gravity feed. Works well if the caddie is above the boat, but not so much if it isn't.

I have a 28 gallon one, but can't use it on the boat because the port authority doesn't allow fuel aside from the pumps at the marina. There is nowhere else I can go and have access to the boat for fueling, so mine lives in my garage and supplies fuel for my lawn tractor and mowers.

Here's some w/rotary pumps or just the pumps.
