I'm having trouble with my macerator system. My porta-potti is connected to a macerator pump located in the engine compartment. When I activate the pump, the macerator makes the appropriate noises, (it almost sounds like an old washing machine), and there's a translucient box it sits in so I can see the waste water sloshing around. The problem is--it's not pumping overboard through the through hull port. Yes, I made sure the "Y" valve was in its proper position. We have not used the porta-potti for solid waste and there doesn't seem to be any obstructions in the plumbing. The vent line is also attached properly.

My boat mechanic disassembled the pump--there's really not much to it and put it back together and it worked fine once or twice, then it went back to its old ways.

Any suggestions? Would this be an indication the pump is worn out? The previous owner operated it on a freshwater lake so she didn't use it at all, but used a pump out station at the marina. The only holding tank is the bottom of the porta-potti itself. I bought it as a 7-yr-old boat with 160 hrs on it. I'm finding out that low hours doesn't equate to "almost brand new."

looks like is time to rebuild the pump. they should sell rebuild seals, valves kit for your pump. not a "clean" job to disassemble used macerator pump
