I have a question to see what you all think. We have 2007 290 Sundancer with twin 5.0 mercruiser engines. The power steering pump that runs the power steering is from the starboard engine. I need to replace the power steering pump on my port engine because it is make a god awful noise. The main function of the port power steering pump is so both engines use the same belt. Has anyone found another solution besides buying another $800 pump that doesn't run the power steering? I have heard there is a shorter belt option to exclude the power steering pump. Does anyone have the part number?

First you need to look at the belt routing. Is there a route for the belt with the power steering pump removed, and is there still a tensioner that’s would function properly? If so, take a 3/8 rope and put it on that route, pull it tight and mark where it meets the beginning. Straighten to rope out and measure the length, that is the belt length and any Napa store will have one that works.

You can buy that pump at AutoZone for $50. Early 90's chevy PU truck.

Check the fluid on the noisy pump?
