Here is an inexpensive way to get some shade on your bow. For use at anchor or in a slip only!! Water and boating are our friends, the sun is our enemy. Get yourself a nine feet diameter umbrella. Keep the umbrella shaft diameter at 1 1/4 inces or less, get the tilt feature, forget crank ups use market umbrellas. Market umbrellas typically have wood shafts and a cord to raise the canvas.

Select one of your Sea Ray cocktail tables, drill a hole through the center of the table with a hole saw to accommodate the umbrella shaft. Cut the lower section of the shaft to your desired umbrella hight. Install the table firmly in the bow deck socket, assemble the two sections of the shaft and slip the umbrella shaft through the hole in the table and all the way down the table leg into the deck socket. Raise the umbrella canvas and tilt and swivel as desired. Bingo shade.

We did that all the time on our fishing boat. Used a rod holder. Redneck sunshade. Works great

I thought about something similar this week for my Achilles dingy. I'm going to drill a hole in the middle of the seat and simply slide the pole through the hole and open the umbrella. Instant shade. We always put a folded up towel over the seat so a small hole won't be uncomfortable.

Great idea. We have a beach market style umbrella that we could use. Thanks!

Hi

That is a great idea, I was just looking at purchasing a table for the boat and need a shade for the bow too.

Thanks
Rob

Why do you need to cut a hole in the table. Why don't you just put it in the aluminum support pole for the table? No cutting required.

Bill .. this thread is from 2013... it has happened to me numerous times ..only difference is I read thru 4 or 5 pages of posts before realizing ... you only had to read one page.... :)

Because he wanted to continue to use the table.

Now, out of curiosity, Bill... how did you happen to come across a 6 year old thread? Inquiring minds... well, just plain 'curious' is more like it.
